Thinking about turning the clock back with a facelift? At my cosmetic plastic surgery practice in Idaho Falls, facelifts are among the most popular anti-aging procedures for men and women alike. Many people see it as the gold standard of facial rejuvenation, the ultimate way to achieve a more youthful appearance with long-lasting and natural-looking results.
However, there are a few things you should know about the procedure before you put your surgery date on the books. Read on to learn more about important facelift facts to consider.
There is more than one kind of facelift.
Not all facelifts are performed in the same way. I use a variety of techniques to tailor each procedure to the individual and personalize each correction. Some of these techniques include:
- Facelift
- Lower facelift
- Neck lift
- Temporal lift
During the consultation process, we will work closely together to define your goals and determine the best approach to achieving them.
You can get a facelift at just about any age.
There is no “right” age to get a facelift—it’s all about the concerns you are facing. While many people choose facelift surgery in their 40s and 50s, you may be a candidate at any age if you are experiencing:
- Jowls
- Lower facial sagging
- Deep folds
- A square face shape
- Flat or fallen cheeks
In most cases, it is best to address signs of aging early on. The more advanced these signs become, the more involved your procedure will be to rejuvenate your look.
Facelifts turn back the clock, but they do not stop the aging process.
Facelift results last about 10 years. However, natural aging does continue even after the surgery.
You can maintain your results with nonsurgical treatments. Injectables, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers, and skin tightening treatments, such as Ultherapy®, are excellent ways to touch up your results over time.

Expect to take about a week away from your usual routine.
Your recovery timeline will depend on your surgeon’s technique and the complexity of your procedure. Most of my patients are able to return to their usual activities within a week or so.
Most swelling and bruising resolve within 2 weeks, although some minor swelling may last for a couple of months. Any bruising remaining after the first week or so is easily covered with camouflage makeup.
It’s all about choosing the right surgeon.
Choosing a plastic surgeon who has experience performing advanced facelift techniques will minimize your downtime and increase your likelihood of loving your results.
To find the best plastic surgeon near you, start by reading reviews, checking for board certification, and scheduling a consultation to get a feel for your potential surgeon’s approach in person. Take your time finding a surgeon who makes you feel supported, understood, and confident about taking your next steps.
